A doctor and member of the Académie de Médecine, Louis Mac Cartan was the brother of Andronic Mac Cartan, General de Gaulle's ancestor on his mother's side. It was from the Mac Cartans that the General's Irish roots came, which he would rediscover at the end of his life, when he retired to Ireland after giving up power.
Family news to his nephew and niece Julia Delannoy (the address is Mrs Marie Delannoy née Mac Cartan in Lille). An autograph note, dated 15 November 1846, accompanies and severely criticises a long handwritten biographical note written by E. Pascallet, of the Revue générale biographique et nécrologique.
One L. A. S. from Mme M.L. Delannoy-Vaudrey to General de Gaulle, 17 February 1953, forwarding these family documents. - a L. A.
