Machete "Fernando Esser, Elberfeld" in cast steel. Late 19th century.
It is possibly a machete for an infantry officer of the Spanish army in Cuba, used for the overseas campaigns in the former Spanish colony.
With its leather sheath, the machete has a carved bone hilt and a metal eagle's head.
Inscription engraved on the base of the blade “FERNANDO ESSER ELBERFELD ACERO FUNDIDO GARANTIZADO" (Cast steel guaranteed). It is numbered 309 K C. Also engraved, a rampant horse in profile.
