Lot no. 24
Majestic Medici vase Italy, Louis XIV, late 17th - early 18th century In white Carrara marble, modelled after the Medicean vase type, with a wide flared mouth, a slightly tapered cylindrical body and a richly decorative lower band. The piece has a wide projecting and moulded upper brim, a smooth main body with a strong volumetric impact, a lower area decorated with a plant motif in continuous relief, robust volute side handles with plastic attachments and a high turned foot with a moulded quadrangular base. The monumental proportions and the purity of the Carrara marble recall the great decorative season of the Grand Siècle, when classical models were reinterpreted for the scenographic apparatus of formal gardens and aristocratic residences.
