Lot no. 72
Maestro di Sant'Ivo (Florence, late 14th - early 15th century) Madonna of Humility, tempera on wood, 117 x 64 cm (with frame). The Maestro di Sant'Ivo was a Florentine painter who probably trained in the workshop of Agnolo Gaddi (doc. 1369-1396) and was influenced by Lorenzo di Niccolò (doc. 1393-1412) and Mariotto di Nardo (doc. 1394-1424); he worked between the end of the fourteenth and the beginning of the fifteenth century. The name convenience, first coined by Miklòs Boskovits (1975), derives from a panel belonging to this same stylistic group and depicting Saint Yves judge in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence (inv. 1890, n. 4664).
