Lajos Vajda, Edvard Munch and Pablo Picasso in particular had a significant influence on her art. Zemplényi grew up in a lower-middle-class Jewish family in Budapest, where she initially developed into an artist through self-study. In the mid-1930s, she began studying art at Vilmos Aba-Novák's Free School. It was here that she met her future husband, the painter Gyula Marosán. From the end of the decade, Zemplényi was represented in the exhibitions of the Ernst Museum. She regularly exhibited with the artist group KUT and took part in exhibitions by the Jewish cultural organisation OMIKE. After the Second World War, Zemplényi joined the artist group "European School". In 1945 she took part in the group exhibition organized by the inner city organisation of the Communist Party (MKP) under the leadership of Imre Pán and Endre Bálint. In 1946 and 1947, she took part in the first and second group exhibitions of the Abstract Artists Group, and in 1947 in the exhibition of the Galéria a 4 worldtáj and the Alkotás Művészház. In 1950, Zemplény divorced Marosán. In the 1950s, Zemplényi was pushed out of public artistic life; she continued to work away from the public. In the 1960s she increasingly painted pictures in a traditional style. Zemplény'is works can be found in the Modern Hungarian Gallery in Pécs and in domestic private collections.
