Cunningham was appointed naturalist on board the Nassau, a steamer that was to explore the Strait of Magellan and the neighbouring canals. This book contains an account of the voyage and his natural history descriptions. The folding map shows Patagonia with inset of the Strait of Magellan. The coloured plates with landscapes and water scenes with staffage of people, the other plates with illustrations of animals, plants, shells etc.. - Front inner fold slightly broken, occasional light brown spotting, plates partly slightly foxed. First edition. - From the library of Lord Enniskillen with his bookplate on inside cover and dedication in the author's own hand to Lord Enniskillen. - Rare account of the exploration of the Straits of Magellan.
