PRIVATE COLLECTION OF HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS MARIE GABRIELLE OF SAVOY Following the success of the sales of rare books and objects from the princely and royal collection of the Kingdom of Italy in June and December 2023, our auction house is pleased to present part of the numismatic collection of Kings Victor-Emmanuel III and Humbert II, from the personal collection of H.R.H. Princess Marie Gabrielle of Savoy. The collection of several hundred coins presented here illustrates 300 years of the history of the House of Savoy. The military campaigns of Prince Eugène de Savoie-Carignan in the service of the Holy Roman Empire (lot nos. 1024 to 1044). The Kingdom of Sardinia and the development of Piedmont (e.g. lots 1060 and 1061), as well as the consolidation of the dynasty through numerous marriages with the great European courts (e.g. lots 1049, 1053 and 1074). The struggle for the unification of Italy, its institutions, its technical and artistic influence, and the glory of its kings (e.g. lots 1076, 1079 and 1084). Even after its exile in 1946, the House of Savoy continued to mint numerous medals, perpetuating the memory of its sovereigns and its two kingdoms. This production bears witness to a rich and uninterrupted numismatic history (lots 1096 to 1133). The sale also includes two medallion cabinets that contained some of the medals presented (lot 1659). All the lots listed (1022 to 1133 and lot 1659 for the furniture) come from the personal collection of H.R.H. Princess Marie Gabrielle de Savoie and are being offered for the first time at auction. It is exceptional to bring together in a sale catalogue a collection of such prestigious provenance and so carefully preserved within the family.
