Pair of ormolu decorative elements adorned with an oval medallion monogrammed FPO (Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans), under a crown of Prince of France supported by two angels on a draped background held in place by a garland of flowers.
Circa 1840.
Attributed to Jean-Baptiste-Jules Klagmann (1810-1867).
Later mounted as andirons.
(Wear.)
Height 19 cm; Length: 52 cm.
Provenance:
- Former collection of Prince Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans, eldest son of King Louis-Philippe (1810-1842).
The Duc d'Orléans had very rich furnishings for his flats in the Palais des Tuileries and the Pavillon de Marsan. These items almost certainly came from the royal prince's libraries in the Tuileries, which we know from the descriptions had this type of decoration. The lower parts of the cupboards made by Alexandre-Louis Bellangé for the Duc d'Orléans' dining room in the Tuileries are decorated with similar cartouches on the front.
