Lot no. 155
MALACHITE AND GOLD SNUFF BOX WITH MICROMOSAIC COVER
SILVER AND GOLD SNUFF BOX
rectangular shape, with rounded corners, micromosaic plaque depicting a view of Paestum flanked by two fluted columns, Papal State stamps of the edict of 1815, maker's mark, c. 6.5x4.5x2 cm, gr. 185
In the panorama of archaeological views, Paestum appears very rarely. In the case of the snuffbox described above, it is characterised by an extraordinary perspective view that the artist wanted to give to the Templar triptych.
