Travelling trunk belonging to Louis Franck, Minister for the Colonies, Hobbs & Co. London, lever-lock, machine-made. Belgium, first quarter of the 20th century. Provenance: collection of John van Kessel (Antwerp, 1885), private secretary to the Minister for the Colonies, Louis Franck, from 1920 to 1924, then passed down through the family. Archival file retained. Travel trunk made of black-painted sheet metal, with a hinged lid, stencilled with ‘MINISTÈRE DES COLONIES / BRUSSELS’ and bearing the initials ‘L. F.’ of Louis Franck (1868–1937), Minister for the Colonies from 1918 to 1924. Kept by his private secretary and passed down through his family. Showing signs of wear and tear.
