Bound in ex-owner's leatherette, author's name inscribed by hand on upper cover and spine, with a photograph of O. Mandelchtam (1936, later copy) pasted in before the title. Good condition. Slight soiling. Bookplate of M.A. Vershvovskiy on title page. This was the last collection of poems published during the lifetime of Osip Mandel'shtam (1891-1938), ten years before his death. Thereafter, his works only appeared in periodicals. The volume is divided into three sections: 'Kamen', 'Tristia' and '1921-1925', the poems in the third section being published here for the first time. In the early 1970s, he was a member of the literary association 'Tsarskosel'skaya lira'. He was also a major collector of 19th and 20th century Russian paintings and contemporary Russian art, including works by the Peredvizhniki, representatives of the Russian avant-garde, underground artists from Leningrad and graduates of the Leningrad Academy of Arts and the Mukhina Institute of Applied Arts.
