Lot no. 45
Minton factory, mid 19th century. Two large circular decorative dishes in enamelled porcelain. The border is patterned with hearts, gadroons and pearls. The background of the first dish depicts The Sacrifice of Iphigenia, based on a model by the Italian artist Pietro Testa (1611-1650), whose engraving is in the Metropolitan Museum. The decoration on the second plate depicts the Allegory of Autumn, with Apollo enthroned in the centre and Bacchus, reclining on a panther, watching over the banquet taking place before his eyes. These two dishes can be compared with a similar example in the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts in Florida, which depicts the Birth of Bacchus after an engraving by François Boucher. Diameter: 43 cm
