IMPERIAL MANUFACTORY OF SÈVRES Porcelain plate, marli with chrome green background decorated with stylised flowers in gold two chevron braids, the centre decorated with a polychrome bouquet of flowers surrounded by a frieze of gold arcatures. Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres, mark mark (the words "M(anufacture) Imp(éria)le" were deliberately erased under the under the Restoration) and dated 1811. S. in red. Marked "36 a.d8" in green and in gold "15 Ja". Empire period. Diameter: 23.7 cm. (wear to decoration and gilding) From the dessert service described green background, rich gilding, bouquet of flowers of flowers" presented in 1816 by the new King Louis XVIII to the Duke of Kent. This service is identical to the one delivered in 1810 to the Empress Joséphine at the Élysée Palace and included 177 pieces. The service then passed into the hands the Duke of Kent, his daughter Queen Victoria, and then daughter Princess Beatrice, then to her son son Alexander Mountbatten, 1st Marquess of Carisbrooke (1886-1960). It was mainly dispersed by Christie's London in 1945.
