ROYAL MANUFACTURE OF AUBUSSON - Last quarter of the 17th century from cartoons by the painter Isaac MOILLON (1614-1673) "The banquet given by Didon in honour of Aeneas". Wool tapestry In the great hall of the palace of Carthage, the guests at the feast are seated. On the right Dido is wrapping her arm around the child Cupid, at her side Aeneas is recounting the misfortunes of Troy, and on the left Achate is being served a drink. Height : 260 cm Length: 390 cm Restorations and discolorations Note : MOILLON was one of the court painters of King Louis XIV and painted many tapestry cartoons for the Royal Aubusson workshop, including a nine-piece story of DIDON and ENEE.
