Lot no. 156
[MANUSCRIT]. Volume of the Dhakhirat al-Muhtaj by Sheikh al-Mu'ta bin Salih al-Sharqi (or Sharqawi). Morocco, 19th century. Ink and polychrome pigments on paper, embossed red leather binding. 42.3 x 27 x 2.8 cm. Manuscript copy of a volume of the Dhakhirât al-Muhtâj fi s-Sala 'ala Sahib al-Liwâ wat-Tâj composed from 1737 by Sheikh al-Mu'ta bin Salih al-Sharqi, a saint (sidi) from the town of Bejaâd in Morocco. This 118-page manuscript contains a text spread over 25 lines on most of the pages, with 4 pages and 5 bifolios (one of which is unfinished) illuminated in polychrome (blue, green, yellow, red), partly depicting the sandal prints of saints. This is probably volume 29 of the 60 volumes that usually make up this work, which is part prayer book, part prophetic biography, part work of dhikr and expiation.
On the last page is '1291' (Arabic numerals), which could correspond to the date 1291 AH / 1874 AD.
The paper bears the watermark "C & I. Honig" or "H I" in an emblem.
(Wear, tears, detached leaves, restorations).
