Manuscript a. s., with a few erasures and additions, comments in pencil, and variants. Act I contains 8 scenes (instead of 9 in the printed version), Act II 13 scenes (instead of 12) and Act III, 13 scenes (instead of 14). It is dated "fait à Danmarie-Les Lys, mai-juin-juillet 1903". The flyleaf also bears the date 3 May 1904, and a letter dated July 1937 from the author to his friend O. Bucholz "for his prize. Bucholz "for his prize for excellence". Pierre Wolff (1865-1944) wrote several plays and directed the Théâtre libre d'Antoine and the Théâtre du Vaudeville. Hinges split, first 2 leaves taped up. Attached is a copy of the first edition (Librairie théâtrale, 1904). With a letter a. s. from the author: "to my old friend Mortier". (In-12, marbled paper boards, damaged). Also enclosed is correspondence from Wolff (7 letters), including 3 letters to the playwright Georges Courteline and his wife, the actress Marie-Jeanne Courteline: friendly correspondence and evocation of the triumph of La Paix chez soi; and including a letter from Courteline to Wolff.
