Urinal, 1938-1939
Miniature urinal in white ceramic enhanced with black paint in a red velvet slipcase made by Georges Hugnet. Signed and dated by Marcel Duchamp: "R. Mutt 1917" on the right-hand side.
Fontaine's miniatures were produced in 1938-1939; this example was probably intended for one of the boxes in the first edition (series A, 1941-1949) or the second edition (series B, 1941-1954).
