María Barta was a Hungarian artist and a member of the Hungarian avant-garde of the early 20th century. Her work shows the influence of Henri Matisse and other artists and movements gained through her travels in Europe in the 1920's. She is also one of the Hungarian pioneers of "drawing with scissors" collage similar to the works created by Matisse in the last decade of his life.
