These new, modern subjects allowed her to study the contrasts caused by the effects of light and shade on the chosen motifs, giving the brightness of a ray of sunlight a more subdued atmosphere at the end of the day. His half-sister Louise and visiting friends such as the Sisleys and Fantin-Latours often served as his models.
