William Marsden, born in Ireland, 16 November 1754 and died in London, 6 October 1836, was a British orientalist, linguist, numismatist and explorer, author of scientific studies on Indonesia. W. Mardsen spent eight years in Sumatra where he became Secretary to the Government.
