Without nail, with countermarks 20 and eagle dated 1805 on a false 6400 reis with grainy surfaces and low weight, to run for a value of 57 pounds (20 pounds the gros, with weight of 2.85 gros). The date 1767 is not mentioned by Jambu (p.55) for these false 6400 reis which arrived in Martinique around 1798. With a golden patina. Superb.
By decree of 17 September 1805, the gold coins of the Portuguese Empire were authorised to circulate in Martinique after having received a countermark indicating their rate in pounds of one gros (3.82 g), i.e. 22 for the authentic examples with a theoretical weight of 14.34 g, and 20 for the light-weight gold reproductions, like our example (Jambu/BnF p. 53).
