"Masked dancer" from Hoffmann's tales. Böttger stoneware, glazed. Dancer standing on an oval plinth, swinging his leg, wearing the characteristically long cap with cock's feathers and holding the grotesque mask in his hand. Designed by Paul Scheurich. Model no. 85051, from the "SinnBilder" edition. Limited edition "02/50". Year mark. Certificate. Centreboard mark. H. 28 cm. Scheurich was inspired for his dancer, designed around 1931 to 1933, by a graphic model from Jacques Callot's "Balli di Sfessania", as well as the opera "Hoffmann's Tales" by Jacques Offenbach, based on the stories by E. T. A. Hoffmann. Cf. Rafael, Scheurich, Meissener Manuskripte, Sonder-Bd. VIII, p. 108f., no. 51.03 (coloured version). A Böttger stoneware masked dancer from Hoffmann's tales designed by P. Scheurich from the limited edition "SinnBilder". Crossed swords mark with golden signet. Certificate included. Meissen. 2004.
