COMIC THEATRE MASK The facial features are characteristic of the comic masks of ancient Greek and Roman theatre. The facial expression is exaggerated, with eyebrows furrowed to the extreme, deep forehead wrinkles and a wide-open mouth. The face is framed by thick, deep locks of hair. The gaping mouth is framed by a broad moustache echoing the hair. The pupils are deeply sunken, accentuating the theatrical look. White marble. H. 35 cm; L. 28 cm 19th century or earlier A Revival 19th Century or earlier Marble theatrical comic Mask. The exaggerated facial expression is transcribed by extremely furrowed eyebrows, deep forehead wrinkles, and a wide open mouth. The face is framed by thick hair of hollowed-out locks. The mouth, for its part, is gaping and is framed by a large mustache covering the hair. The pupils are deeply hollow, accentuating theatrical look.
