MALE FUNERARY MASK IN POLYCHROME STUCCO
Egyptian art, Roman period, circa 2nd-3rd century AD
A stuccoed and painted mummy plastron mask, depicting a man with pink skin and curly brown hair, his hands resting on his chest, holding a scroll on his left. He is dressed in pink, blue and orange coloured drapery and his eyes are inlaid with glass.
Restoration and missing parts.

This type of hollow-moulded mask was placed over the face of the mummified deceased. During the Roman period, it replaced the pharaonic masks, along with the portraits painted on wood.
