MASSIVE ROMAN BRONZE CUPID STATUETTE Ca. 100 AD A plump figure of Cupid is depicted nude, striding forward with his right leg advanced and his left arm stretched upward holding a horn. His long wavy hair is tied in a topknot with a braid running back over the crown of the head. His face is framed by ringlets, with two rectangular mortises on the reverse to insert a pair of now-missing wings. His facial features are rendered in a highly expressive manner, including generously lidded almond-shaped eyes, delineated pupils, a perky nose, and parted lips.
