MATCHED PAIR OF GRAECO-ROMAN AMETHYST AND GOLD MELON-SHAPED EARRINGS. Ca. AD 1 - 200. A matched pair of earrings, each with a carved amethyst melon bead cut with deep longitudinal flutes and mounted axially between two gold caps of a possibly later period. Each cap is a domed filigree disc with an outer corona of granules. The upper cap features a tightly coiled suspension ring. For similar see: F. H.
