The volume opens with a beautiful title-frontispiece designed and engraved in intaglio by Jacques Fornazeris, a Piedmontese artist who settled in Lyon in the early 17th century. Pierre Matthieu (1563-1621), a lawyer at the Presidial Court of Lyon, was one of the deputies sent by the inhabitants of Lyon to Henri IV in February 1594 to assure him of their fidélité. A precious copy bound in red morocco with the arms of the Provençal de Forbin family, probably Melchior de Forbin (1618-1696), marquis de Gontard et de La Roque, president of the parliament of Aix. The binding was certainly made in Provence. Rubbing on the corners, headpieces and nerves, gnawing on a spine and a nerve, wetness at the bottom of the boards, scattered foxing. Brunet, III, 1532.
