First edition. The novel is still considered Maupassant's masterpiece. One of 200 copies printed on Hollande paper, the only large paper. A very fine copy in an elegant binding by Henri Noulhac. From the libraries of Jean Meyer and Emmanuel Subercaseaux, with ex-libris. Octagonal bookplate with the initials AE (English?), with a lion holding a rose, on a sky-blue background. Cat.
