Alain Delon and Romy Schneider are without doubt Paris Match's greatest love story. In March 1961, the two actors starred in John Ford's play Dommage qu'elle soit une putain, directed by Luchino Visconti at the Théâtre de Paris. The story is about the impossible love between a brother and a sister. The play was staged 120 times between March and August 1961: a triumph. It was Alain Delon who taught Romy Italian and introduced her to Luchino Visconti. After the play, the director gave the actress a wooden ring encrusted with two diamonds and a sapphire, which she would wear until her death. In 1962, she appeared on stage for the first time in Germany, at the Baden-Baden theatre, where she performed Anton Chekhov's The Seagull in French with a French company. In 1963, after five years of stormy passion, Alain Delon left her for Nathalie Sand, who was pregnant with their son Anthony. All lots are priced inclusive of VAT. VAT, at the current rate of 20%, is included in the auction price. This VAT is recoverable by the French professional. It is reimbursable for buyers from outside the EU on presentation of proof of export from the EU or for professional bidders providing proof of a valid intra-Community number and a document proving delivery in the Member State. The lots are sold VAT (20%) included. The VAT can be refunded to any registered European company which acquired it at auction, provided they hold a valid European VAT registration number ; and can prove the lot has been transported to the company' country of residence. The VAT can be refunded to any buyer residing outside the EU, providing export papers duly signed and cleared by the French customs or by any other member countries' customs service.
