Maurice MAETERLINCK (1862-1949). Autograph manuscript of 6 poems, with L.A.S. to Rodolphe Darzens 6 pages in-4, and 2 pages in-8, the whole mounted on tabs and bound in a booklet in-4 green half-percaline, title page on the spine. Beautiful set of six poems from Les Serres chaudes.
These poems appeared in No. 4 of La Pléiade (June 1886), a review edited by Rodolphe Darzens.
The manuscript, carefully written in black ink on laid paper, includes the following poems: Reflets " Sous l'eau du rêve qui s'élève "..., Fauves las " Ô les passions en allées "..., Feuillages du cœur " Sous la cloche de cristal bleu "..., Serre d'ennui " Ô cet ennui bleu dans le cœur ! Le souvenir was removed from the collection (published in 1889 by Léon Vanier); the other poems vary from the edition.
In his letter to Rodolphe Darzens, d'Oostacker 5 June [1886], Maeterlinck thanks for the proofs. "I gave you a very foul piece, Jardin de Vierges, tear it up. The stanzas from Reflets (Sous l'eau du rêve... etc.) will appear in Jeune Belgique, but perhaps only in July, so if there is still time and if you want something else, here are two new machines of your choice". He salutes Mikhaël, Quillard, Bloch...". My enormous admiration to Villiers"...
