Oppenheimer studied at the academies in Vienna and Prague from 1900-1906. In 1906, Oppenheimer joined the avant-garde artist group "OSMA" in Prague, which was influenced by modern French painting, van Gogh, Gauguin and Cézanne. After his return to Vienna in 1907, he took part in exhibitions at the Kunstschau in 1908/09 and joined the circle of "Viennese Expressionism" around Kokoschka and Schiele. During a stay in Berlin from 1911 to 1915, he increasingly integrated Cubist elements into his work. From 1915 to 1925, Oppenheimer lived in Switzerland and began his exploration of music there. During this time he created the present sheet and numerous portraits of musicians.
