A previously unrecorded copy, absent from all major bibliographies and library holdings, of this curious medical recipe book attributed to Galen, translated and adapted into the Italian vernacular for a lay and practical audience. The work collects therapeutic preparations, empirical remedies, and Galenic prescriptions for the most common human ailments, based on the principles of humoral medicine. It is structured for functional use: an alphabetical or thematic list of ailments is followed by pharmacological recipes; often involving plant-, mineral-, or animal-based ingredients; along with dosage, instructions for administration, and usage indications.
8vo (141 x 100mm). 63 numbered leaves, woodcut vignette on title, two in-text illustrations, and large printer's device at colophon (trimmed; worming to the margin of the first 8 leaves affecting a few letters; marginal dampstaining). Early 19th-century paperboard binding (worn, with defects and losses). (1)
