In-12, red morocco, double frame of gilt lace, gilt small irons in the reserve and at the corners, sprays of small irons emanating from a central rhombus, ornate spine, stippling on the edges, inner lace, gilt edges, traces of clasps (Period binding). New edition of this collection of pious meditations taken from the Holy Fathers, principally Saint Augustine, Saint Anselm and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. The first edition was published in 1568 by Jean Guitot, secretary to Charles III of Lorraine, who dedicated it to his sisters Renée and Dorothée of Lorraine. Very fine Parisian binding of the period, entirely decorated with small irons. From the libraries of the Princes of Liechtenstein, with ex-libris and seal, and of Baron Alexis de Redé, with ex-libris. Missing clasp fastenings; a few leaves foxed; small split at edge of p. 227; small hole removing a letter on p. 375.
