It was particularly important for the dissemination of new ideas about the nature and location of cataracts as advocated by Brisseau (1631-1717) and Maître Jean (1650-1730), ideas that were supported by Boerhaave's own observations. Two chapters describe the use of ophthalmological instruments, and the 22 engraved illustrations show the functioning of the eye with defective vision and with corrected vision. - This edition also contains a dissertation by Johann Siegmund Leincker (1724-1788) in which he describes the nature and function of the choroid.
