Unsere Fassung, die in ihren Maßen von dieser leicht abweicht, befindet sich seit etwa 30/40 Jahren in derselben belgischen Privatsammlung. Das Bildmotiv selbst hat der namentlich nicht bekannte flämische Meister auch in weiteren und durchaus unterschiedlichen Kompositionen dargestellt. Sein Hilfsname geht zurück auf ein Gemälde in Wien, welches das Gleichnis vom Verlorenen Sohn illustriert. The present version, which varies slightly in the dimensions, has been housed in an old Belgian private collection for around 30-40 years. The motif was used in numerous compositions by this anonymous Flemish artist, whose notname derives from a painting in Vienna depicting the story of the Prodigal Son.
