Mercedes-Benz W121 The Mercedes-Benz W 121 B II (sales description Mercedes-Benz 190 SL) is a sports car by Daimler-Benz, offered as cabriolet (optional with coupé rooftop) between 1955 and 1963. As far as technology is concerned, the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is based on the sedan series W 121 'Ponton-Model'. The 190 SL was exclusively available with a 1.9 liter Otto engine, which was an independent development (M 121 B II), with its 77 kw (105 hp) it was stronger than the sedan's engine of the same size. The 190 SL was intended to be closer to its 'big brother', the 300 SL Gull-wing door. However, its driving performance was clearly lower (77 kw/105 hp in comparison with 158 kw/215 hp). This was also the reason why Daimler-Benz advertised the 190 SL in its brochures as a 'touring sports car'.
