First Dutch edition of this monumental topographical description of France during the reign of Louis XIV, preferable for the quality of the paper and the printing of the engravings to the original German and Latin editions of 1655-1661.
The second and fourth parts are the only parts of a four-part set. Their abundant illustrations consist of two engraved titles and 154 copper-engraved plates of maps, plans and town views, mostly double-page or folded, depicting the north and east of France in the second part (Picardy, Champagne, Ardennes, Metz, Burgundy, Nivernais, Dombes, Bresse - 104 plates), the west and south-west in the fourth part (Brittany, Guyenne, Saintonge, Périgord, Gascony, Armagnac, Béarn, etc. - 50 plates). - 50 plates). The maps are taken from Mercator's atlas; some views are signed by the Flemish painter Jan Peeters.
