Frankfurt am Main, Caspar Merian, 1656-1657. 5 parts (of 13) in one small folio volume, half-brown basane with corners, threaded spine (18th century binding). First edition in German of this monumental topographical description of France during the reign of Louis XIV published by the engraver Caspar Merian. The five parts in this copy are illustrated with 157 views and maps engraved in intaglio on 115 plates outside the text, most of which are fold-outs or double-page spreads. Part 3 covers Champagne and Brie; part 4 Burgundy, Bresse, Nivernais and Dombes; part 5 Lyonnais, Forez, Beaujolais and Bourbonnais; the 6th on Berry, Auvergne and Limousin; the 7th on Beauce, Chartrain, Anjou, Maine, Perche, Vendôme, Blaisois, Dunois, Touraine, Orléanais, Poitou, Aunis and Angoumois. The title of part 3 (f. A1) is missing. Binding worn, jaws split, title-piece missing.
