Paris, Revue des Deux Mondes, XXIII, 4e série, 1er juillet 1840; in-8, 117 pp, brown half-chagrin, corners, gilt and cold fillet, smooth spine decorated with a lean gilt fillet and a bold cold fillet. Pre-original edition published in the Revue des Deux Mondes a year before its release in bookshops. From his stay in Corsica in 1839 as inspector of historical monuments, Mérimée drew this story of a vendetta that captures the Corsican soul better than any travelogue.
