MEROVINGIAN / VISIGOTIC GILT-BRONZE, GARNET AND GLASS BELT BUCKLE WITH CENTRAL CROSS. Ca. AD 480 - 580. A bronze belt buckle with a rectangular plate and a robust loop with a carinated tongue hinged to one short side. The recessed central field bears a gilt cross with circular and drop-shaped inlays; the surrounding frame is inlaid with garnet and green and blue glass.
