MESOPOTAMIAN LAPIS LAZULI RAM-SHAPED VESSEL. Ca. 3000 - 2500 BC. A small lapis lazuli carving in the form of a reclining ram. Its body is marked with incised vertical striations suggesting fleece. Two cylindrical receptacles with flat rims and rounded sides are set on the animal’s back. The head is framed by curving horns and features alert, forward-facing eyes and a rounded muzzle.
