MESOPOTAMIAN MIXED STONE STAMP SEAL WITH QUADRUPEDS AND SNAKE - WITH ORIGINAL REPORT BY PROF. LAMBER. Ca. 3000 BC A stamp seal of mixed white and grey stone cut as a nearly square plaque, drilled horizontally. The engraved design shows a standing horned quadruped with another animal leaping onto its back from behind, further elements including a form positioned between the legs, a snake running along the lower margin, and additional drilled motifs filling the field. Size: 35mm x 34mm; Weight: 30g. Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; Formerly in a central London family collections 1990s; Suggested to be examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s.; ex. 1970s/early80s UK art market.
