MESOPOTAMIAN STONE MOSCHOPHOROS Ca. 3500 - 2500 BC. A striking stone idol with an anthropomorphic form. The rectangular body features prominent shoulders with long bent arms. They extend outward from the upper body to the chest, where a small lamb is held. Atop the broad neck is a large symmetrical head, with a sharply pointed chin. The head features a large smiling face with wide-open eyes, believed to signify attentiveness to the gods. A heavy brow is formed by an incised line, framed by either long hair or a bipartite wig resting on the shoulders. Size: 150mm x 105mm; Weight: 1.09kg. Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex. M.
