In 1907, President Porfirio Diaz decided to issue a commemorative coinage for the War of Independence of 1810. The Monnaie de Paris was approached and Charles Pillet carried out trials in 1907, 1908 and 1909. In the same year, the Mint received the coining equipment and the minting began in 1910.
