First edition. The second volume is devoted entirely to the 19th century. A fine present copy, bearing the arms of Napoleon III, with this autograph letter signed by Michaud: "À son excellence monsieur le duc de Persigny, témoignage de ma vive reconnaissance et hommage très respectueux". Jean-Gilbert Victor Fialin, Duc de Persigny (1808-1872) was a French politician who took part in the restoration of the imperial regime. He was Minister of the Interior (1852-1854, then 1860-1863) and Ambassador to England. The binding of the second volume decorated on the reverse. Some very light brown spots. ATTACHED SEURRE (Jules). In-8 (20,4 x 12,3 cm), brown chagrin, cold-stamped extension of the nerves on the boards, spine ribbed, red edges with golden ermines (period binding). An autograph letter signed by Jules Seurre to the Count of Persigny (Demigny par Chagny, Saône et Loire, 10 December 1860) has been bound at the head of the volume: "[...] Seeing your Excellency return to internal affairs after great services rendered abroad, I take the liberty of addressing my congratulations to him and I ask him to kindly accept, as his Majesty the Emperor himself has deigned to do, the homage of a copy of this work [...]".
