Note: Born out of a scientific reflection based on his studies in mathematics, physics and architecture, his work enjoyed an early renown that enabled him to exhibit throughout Europe and across the Atlantic, as evidenced by his first solo exhibition in Rome in 1958 and his prize at the Biennale des Jeunes de Paris (1966). On the strength of his growing reputation, his ambition was to master the creation of complex works and their quality, and to democratise sculpture through multiples. To achieve this goal, he set up his own foundry, which over time would also become the foundry of many European artists. Continuing to perfect his work and his technique, from the end of the 1950s he devoted himself to a new way of thinking about his sculptures, in which a series of pieces were interwoven to form a work in its own right, sometimes with a hidden mechanism. This technique gave rise to his nickname of "puzzle sculptor". Berrocal's work covers a wide spectrum, from monumental sculpture to micro-sculptures and jewellery. One of his outdoor sculptures can be seen in front of the entrance to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.
The collection presented here comprises more than twenty-five sculptures by the artist. It has been carefully assembled over a period of almost 40 years by an art lover with a passion for the artist.
