Lot no. 132
[MIRÒ (Joan, ill)] and HIRTZ (Lise). Il était une petite pie. 7 chansons et 3 chansons pour Hyacinthe, with 8 coloured drawings by Joan Mirò. Paris, Bucher, 1928. In folio. The illustration consists of 8 gouaches by Joan Mirò, reproduced with stencils by the master colourist Saudé. This is the first book illustrated by Mirò. The text is by Lise Hirtz, the famous Surrealist novelist and poetess, who was for a time editor of Le Phare de Neuilly. She later became known as Lise Deharme, having adopted her second husband's surname. Edition of 300 copies, this one unjustified. A number of copies of la petite pie are known not to have a justification page, as Monod mentions an unjustified copy sold at a Bérès sale. There are also copies with the placement text or without the placement text. This one is with the text. Originally, in the copies sold, these leaves were placed in a publisher's file folder covered with printed grey cloth. This is why the leaves are perforated. Here, the binder is not present and it is the double leaf that acts as the file. This double sheet is not perforated, which proves that the copies we are presenting for sale were not intended to be placed in binders and sold. They are probably copies intended for the publisher. A few stains on the last white folder leaf. (Monod, 6038)
