Born in Lunel and therefore "Pescalune", Mithé Espelt trained at the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, then at Fontcarrade, before continuing her training in Paris with Nathalie Pol and Line Vautrin. Orphaned at just twenty-two, Mithé Espelt returned to her home town to look after her younger sister and set up her studio. A neighbour of the painter Jean Hugo, himself a close friend of Cocteau and Picasso, the artist renewed the world of ceramics with her impeccable technique and ever-changing inspiration. With the help of young women whom she trained in her art and affectionately called "her daughters", the Mithé Espelt studio explored the world of boxes, mirrors, jewellery and other rarer objects such as thermometers and clocks.
