MÖBIUS (August Ferdinand). Der barycentrische Calcul, ein neues Hülfsmittel zur analytischen Behandlung der Geometrie. Leipzig, J. A. Barth, 1827. In-8, fawn half-basin, spine decorated, marbled edges (Binding of the period). First edition, illustrated with 4 folding plates. "The present volume represents not only Möbius' most important contribution, but the source of much of his later work. He had developed the fundamental ideas for his barycentric calculus in 1818 and by 1821 had decided that they warranted a book-length treatment. Since barycentric coordinates are a form of homogenous coordinate, Möbius is recognized by Feuerbach and Plücker as a discoverer of homogenous coordinates." (Bibliotheca Mechanica, p. 227). Möbius' "greatest work, which later became a mathematical classic" (DSB). Stamp of Exaten College. From the scientific library of Peter and Margarethe Braune (2020, I, n°921). Spine and corners rubbed, foxing and spotting.
