Cain and Abel
Patinated bronze. Signed with ligature monogram "MB". Cast by Susse Fondeur Paris (with foundryman's inscription). Large bronze group by the important, modern Danish sculptor, who probably also created "Adam and Eve" as a counterpart and is primarily known for his animal figures, fountains and monuments. Boggild studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. From 1936 onwards, he created many works for public spaces, including in Nykøbing Falster, Aarhus, Hillerød, Copenhagen and Glostrup (where the stylistically comparable group "To søstre"/"Two Sisters" from 1963-1977 is located). From 1955 to 1971, Boggild was Professor of Sculpture at the Academy in Copenhagen. Bøggild was honoured with the Eckersberg Medal in 1930 and the Thorvaldsen Medal in 1940. In 2013, the Thorvaldsen Museum organised an exhibition of Bøggild's works. Approx. 82 cm x 64 cm x 38.5 cm.
